Water & Wastewater Departments

water-faucet-dripsThe City of Clifton Water System dates back to the 1950's when service was first provided to city residents.  In 1984 a new plant was constructed to keep up with growth.  In the year 2000 a new project to add an additional 322,500 gallons per day of treatment capacity was established.

The Water Plant also tests turbidity, Ph, bacteria, hardness, and alkalinity on a daily basis. These tests have been instituted to help in providing the city with high quality drinking water.

The City of Clifton began to offer sewer services to the public in the 1980's. The City currently operates two sewer plants to serve the area. Several expansions throughout the years now offers sewer service to most of the City.

PROFILE OF CLIFTON WASTEWATER PLANTS

TREATMENT PLANT #1

Type of Treatment:  Biological Natural.  This plant is a two cell Lagoon system, one cell receives the raw wastewater, the second cell is the polishing pond with a small chlorine contact chamber.

This plant went into operation sometime between 1980 and 1985.

TREATMENT PLANT #2

Type of Treatment: Biological Natural. This plant is a three cell Lagoon system with a small polishing pond.  The three operating cells are: 156' x 444' x 14' for a three cell total storage of 11.5 to 12 million gallons.  The chlorine is added at the Eff. weir of the polishing pond and is mixed as it is pumped approximately two miles to the Tennessee River.  A  CL2 sample is taken from the discharge line near the outfall.  The normal operating depth of each cell is approximately 12 ft.

This plant went into operation in 1992.

The certification needed to operate both plants is a Biological Natural or better and a Grade One Collection System Certification.
